Role Descriptions

Welcoming
Who can help? Any member of the church
What is the time commitment? Arrive 30min before the service, stay for 30min after the service.
What are the basic parts of the role? To hand out the bulletins, count and record the number of people, collect service sheets from pews, bring in sign, close the door and turn off the lights at the end, and ask any warden to take offertory bag to office.
Why it is necessary? To make people feel warmly welcomed
Bible Reading
Who can help? A regular member (over 6 months) of the church who is a committed Christian
What is the time commitment? Practise for 30min during the week and arrive 15 before the service to touch base and pray with service leader.
What are the basic parts of the role? To practise, then read clearly and audibly the bible reading for the service.
Why it is necessary? To enable congregation to clearly hear the word of God
Arvo Club Leading
Who can help? A regular member (over 6 months) of the church who is a committed Christian, has a current Safe Ministry Training, Working with Children Check, and has been authorised to lead by the staff.
What is the time commitment? Prepare the lesson, game or craft during the week (30min), arrive at 2:45 to touch base with the coordinator, the program finishes at 5pm and the team touch base and leave at 5:15pm.
What are the basic parts of the role? To supervise the kids and encourage them to engage with the Bible teaching and other parts of the program (e.g. games, craft and small groups).
Why it is necessary? To enable kids to learn and grow in their relationship with God in age appropriate ways.
Communion Set Up
Who can help? Any member of the church
What is the time commitment? Allow 30 minutes for set-up for 8am, and 45min to set up for 10am. Prep can be done any time during the week and stored in the fridge.
What are the basic parts of the role? Pour and set up the wine and juice, then place them covered on the communion table. After the service the table needs to be unpacked and the leftovers disposed with.
Why it is necessary? Ensures communion is ready, organised, and reverent for the congregation, helping the service run smoothly and allowing everyone to participate fully
Morning Tea
Who can help? Any member of the church
What is the time commitment? Arrive 15min before the service, stay for 1 hour after the service.
What are the basic parts of the role? To provide basic snacks and milk, to turn on the urn(8am), to set out the tea and coffee supplies, to clean the dishes afterwards, take dirty tea towels home to wash, sweep floors, empty bins, pack up and lock at the end (or ensure someone locks it for you)
Why it is necessary? To enable time for our community to build relationships and encourage each other in our faith
Prayer Leading
Who can help? A regular member (over 6 months) of the church who is a committed Christian
What is the time commitment? Write your prayers during the week (45min) and arrive 15 before the service to touch base and pray with the service leader, the prayer needn’t be longer than 5min in the service.
What are the basic parts of the role? To write, then pray your prepared prayers audibly at the service and when required, lead the congregation in the Lord’s Prayer and prayer of the day.
Why it is necessary? To lead the congregation thoughtfully in prayer to God
Arvo Club Afternoon Tea
Who can help? Any member of the church, has a current Safe Ministry Training and a Working with Children Check.
What is the time commitment? Arrive at 2:45 and stay until 3:30
What are the basic parts of the role? To provide basic snacks for 15-20 primary kids, hand them out, and to clean the dishes afterwards.
Why it is necessary? To allow our kids to concentrate during Arvo Club and to deepen relationships between the kids and the wider church family.
Mowing team
Who can help? Any member of the church
What is the time commitment? Usually around 45–90 minutes, depending on how much growth there’s been and how much you’re able to do that week. You can fit it in at any time during your allocated week (weather permitting).
What are the basic parts of the role? Mow the front lawn, Kids’ Church side, and the driveway strip using the self-propelled mower. Empty grass clippings into the green bins. Refill the fuel can if it runs out. Optional: whipper snip edges if you bring one.
Why it is necessary? This role helps keep the church grounds welcoming, safe, and tidy for services and community activities, while sharing the responsibility so no one person carries the load alone. It’s a simple but very practical way to serve and care for our church family.
Church Cleaning
Who can help? Any member of the church
What is the time commitment? It takes about 45min depending on the state of the church.
What are the basic parts of the role? To vacuum the church space, tidy and dust pews and wipe any surfaces that need a clean. Church vacuum is provided or you can bring your own if you prefer.
Why it is necessary? To show pride in our space and not to distract participants from worshipping God during the service
Kids Church Leading
Who can help? A regular member (over 6 months) of the church who is a committed Christian, has a current Safe Ministry Training, Working with Children Check, and has been authorised to lead by the staff.
What is the time commitment? Prepare the lesson during the week (1hr), arrive 30min before the service to set up, and teach the kids for 1hr. Our leaders are on a rotation and lead for 3 weeks per term.
What are the basic parts of the role? To supervise the kids and encourage them to engage with the Bible teaching and other parts of the program (e.g. games and craft)
Why it is necessary? To enable kids to learn and grow in their relationship with God in age appropriate ways.
Music Leading
Who can help? A regular member (over 6 months) of the church who is a committed Christian
What is the time commitment? Prepare the music during the week in consultation with our office administrator, arrive 30 min before the service to practise, and lead music during the service.
What are the basic parts of the role? To practise, then lead the music in a way that enables the congregation to sing along.
Why it is necessary? So we can as a church worship God through song together.
Silk Flower team
Who can help? Any member of the church
What is the time commitment? About 45 minutes, at any time during the week.
What are the basic parts of the role? Coordinate with the flower team to confirm which week you’re on. Collect silk flowers from under the stairs. Arrange flowers for the church entrance and front of the church.
Why it is necessary? Arranging flowers keeps the church welcoming and beautiful for services and visitors, creating a warm and inviting environment for the congregation and community.
